Dark clouds are looming on the horizon of the Spanish Liga Endesa with the Spanish Cup (Copa del Rey) being at risk of being canceled due to a player strike set to begin on February 14th. The upcoming Copa del Rey is slated to take place from the 15th to the 18th.
Negotiations fell apart between the Spanish Association of Basketball Clubs (ACB) and the Association of Basketball Players (ABP) on terms of a new collective agreement.
The ACB general secretary Esther Queralto said that:”Unfortunately, we broke the negotiations because, despite the effort made to please the conditions of the union, it has not been possible get an agreement on the social fund“.
Spanish basketball is at a tipping point with this tense impasse holding fast. The victims at the end of all of this will be the fans themselves, especially if both parties cannot find a way to settle their differences and call off the strike.
