The Lakers downed the Cleveland Cavaliers 112-109 in a double-overtime thriller. It was an exhilarating game as the players left it all on the line as if they were playing in an NBA Finals and not just a Summer League tune-up. Josh Hart erupted for 37 points, leading the Lakers with six triples and a full stat line. He has certainly made a strong case for that Summer League MVP award. Lakers’ Ukrainian prospect, impressed yet again with a 31-point effort. He is making a strong case to make it into the team’s rotation. He knocked down six triples of his own as well.
On the Cavs’ side, Collin Sexton brought an intensity like no other. He led Cleveland with 27 points. John Holland added 17 markers for the red shirts.
The other semifinal game, Portland defeated Memphis 97-92. The Grizzlies gave rookie Jaren Jackson Jr. the night off to rest and this allowed Portland’s Caleb Swanigan to bust out with a monstrous 21-point, 16-rebound double-double to power the Blazers to victory. The Grizzlies’ Kobi Simmons and Brandon Goodwin chipped in 23 and 27 points, respectively.
The Las Vegas Summer League has been a resounding success, with some jaw-dropping performances from the league’s young talent.
