There’s a way for Kyrie Irving to return to the Brooklyn Nets’ active roster, that is if he’s still bent on suiting up for the team. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Nets front office has issued these requirements to Kyrie, namely:

  • Apologize for posting the link to the movie, “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America” and condemn the film
  • Make a $500,000 donation to anti-hate causes and organizations
  • Complete a sensitivity training
  • Complete an antisemitic/anti-hate training
  • Meet with Anti-Defamation League representatives and Jewish community leaders
  • Meet with Nets team owner Joe Tsai and other high-ranking franchise officials

The Nets handed out a suspension on Kyrie Irving for being involved in an antisemitic controversy. It will last for at least five games, but it’s really up to Kyrie if the suspension will extend to more games. The Nets’ lead guard already issued his personal apology, but there’s no question that the team — and the league — needs more accountability from him. Nets general manager Sean Marks said that the team will not rush Kyrie into making a decision but they expect the 30-year-old All-Star to put his words into action.

The issues that surround Kyrie Irving are very unfortunate, considering the high level of production he’s putting up this season. Before his suspension, Kyrie was tallying 26.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.1 blocks, a stat line worthy of another All-Star appearance. Kyrie’s ability to create shots for himself and for his teammates is a valuable weapon for the championship-chasing Nets squad. They are currently sporting a 4-6 record in the Eastern Conference, and they have a lot of ground to make up before climbing to the top of the standings.
