Oklahoma City Thunder’s superstar forward Kevin Durant has been named the 2013-14 NBA Most Valuable Player. This is Durant’s first time to win the award. He beat out the reigning MVP, Miami Heat’s LeBron James 119 votes to six. Durant averaged 32.o ppg, 7.4 rpg and 5.5 apg during the regular season. He also won the league’s scoring title this season, his fourth in the last five years.

“Everything in my life, I had to take it,” Durant said. “They’re not going to give it to you out of sympathy. I wouldn’t want it any other way. This was another case, if I wanted to win the MVP, I had to go take it. I felt that this was the year I did that.”

In his acceptance speech, Durant lovingly and emotionally dedicated the award to his mother.
