Jordan Poole saw his stock rise after a breakout performance during the Golden State Warriors’ successful title run last season, and he’s now getting paid. Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported that Poole has inked a much-deserved four-year, $140 million contract extension with the defending champions. Slater mentioned that the contract guarantees a $123-million payday for Poole, with $17 million worth of incentives.

Poole, the 28th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, is entering his fourth year in the league. As a rookie, he only averaged 22.4 minutes, although he did show glimpses of his shooting and shot-creating back then. His scoring production slightly increased in his second year, but it was his brilliance last season that catapulted him to a starring role in the Warriors camp.

With Klay Thompson missing a large chunk of the regular season, Jordan Poole started in his place and he thrived in it. He averaged 30.0 minutes, tallying a tremendous stat line of 18.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.0 assists while shooting a decent 36.4% clip from the three-point line. He also led the league in free throw percentage (92.5%), although it could be better if we see an uptick in Poole’s free throw attempts in the upcoming 2022-23 season.

Poole’s name has been floating around in recent weeks, after an altercation that saw him take an ill-advised punch from teammate Draymond Green. The good thing is that the issue is slowly fading into the background now, so the Warriors can focus on their bid to defend their title. They now have a solid supporting cast around stars Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Green, and Poole, and there’s no doubt that they’re one of the elite contenders this year.

The Warriors will receive their championship rings on October 18, when they host LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in their season opener.
