Jason Kapono future uncertain with Panathinaikos
An announcement was made late last week that Panathinaikos (Greece-A1) had signed former NBA player Jason Kapono (201 cm, UCLA’03) and that he was to arrive in Athens this past Sunday. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances with his family arose that prevented him from making the trip and has put his future with the club on hold. Kapono released a statement that was posted on the club’s website this morning:
“After reaching an agreement with Panathinaikos earlier this week, I was subsequently faced with an unexpected family situation that has delayed my departure for Greece. It is unclear at this time whether this situation may ultimately prevent me from fulfilling my obligation to the club, but I will stay in close communication with club representatives over the next week as my family and I work towards a positive resolution of the matter. Panathinaikos is one of the most legendary sport clubs in Europe and I was very excited to be a part of their winning tradition. Everyone from the club has been extremely professional and respectful of my situation, especially Mr. Giannakopoulos, whom I want to personally thank for his support.” – Jason Kapono
