Italian Serie A Round 12 Roundup
The Italian Serie A closed out Round 12 of its 2018-19 regular season on December 26th. Five games were on tap and the most notable game of the night was a thrashing by Banco di Sardegna Sassari over VL Pesaro 114-73 for the biggest blowout win of the round. The win improves Sassari’s record to 5-7 but they remain in 11th place in the standings among a mid-pack of teams hungry for those highly coveted playoff spots. Vanoli Cremona (8-4) moved up to third place in the standings thanks to their 86-80 victory over Happy Casa Brindisi. Peyton Aldridge and Travis Diener paved the way for the win as they exploded for 29 and 20 points, respectively. The loss drops Happy Casa to 6-6, forcing them to step things up in the near future as they sit precariously at seventh place in the standings.
Sidigas Avellino successfully dispatched with FIAT Torino on the road, 79-86, securing their eight victory of the season. The duo of Caleb Green and Patric Young powered Avellino to the win on the shoulders of their combined 47 points.
There was a notable upset in the round. Umana Reyer Venezia was stunned by Alma-Agenzia Per Il Lavoro Trieste, 75-83. Trieste made their killing at the line, going 19-of-32 from the stripe.
On Christmas day, there were little surprises as AX Armani Exchange added another win to their perfect 12-0 record. They handily defeated Germani Brescia 87-75. The tough loss drops Germani Brescia to 5-7 and fall to 10th place in the Serie A standings.
