Italian Serie A: EA7 Armani Headed to the Finals

Italian Serie A The Italian Serie A has its first finalist for the 2015-16 season. EA7 Emporio Armani Milano prevailed over Umana Reyer Venezia 60-68 in Game 6 of their semi-finals series to be the first team to advance. Scandone Avellino defeated Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia 83-74 to force a Game 7 of their series. That game will be played out tonight and we will soon know which club will face the Italian Serie A regular season champs for the league title.

The fourth and decisive win in this series for Armani came on the heels of some impressive defense displayed by the team. The Milanese club put on the pressure early and maintained it throughout the duration of the game. It was Venetian franchise, however, that committed fewer turnovers. It was the defense on the perimeter that played a big role for Armani. They limited Umana Venezia to just 3-of-27 shooting from three-point range, compared to their comparable success of nailing 6-of-20 shots.

EA7 Armani took an early 13-16 lead at the end of the first quarter and held control of the game for the first three frames. Venezia eked out a 22-20 edge in the fourth period, but that was too little and too late to seize the lead from the 2014 champions.

Oliver Lafayette was primarily responsible for Armani’s success from three-point range. He knocked down 4-of-9 shots from dowtown en route to his game-high 16 points. Simon Krunoslav chipped in 15 points on some efficient scoring from all over the court. Stefano Tonut led Umana Venezia with his team-high 12 points.

Now that Armani has gotten past the hurdle of their Venetian rivals, they await their opponent for the championship. They have played well throughout the regular season and have displayed some excellent basketball so far in the playoffs. Can EA7 Armani go on and re-claim the crown this season or will another team take the Italian Serie A crown of 2016?
