Dejounte Murray Suffers Ankle Sprain

Atlanta Hawks star guard Dejounte Murray will miss the team’s games in the next two weeks. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Murray has sustained a left ankle sprain, an injury that he suffered during the Hawks’ recent match against the New York Knicks. Murray only logged a shade below four minutes in that game, finishing with only two points and two made free throws. The Hawks went on to lose that battle, as the Knicks ran away with a convincing 113-89 victory.

The Hawks have an upcoming powerhouse battle with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. It will also be the first game that Dejounte Murray will sit out this season. Through his first 25 games for his new team, the 6-foot-4 combo guard is putting up an excellent stat line of 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 1.8 steals. Atlanta went all-in to acquire him in the offseason, and he’s paying it back in a good way so far. The production in the box score isn’t as dynamic as his All-Star season last year, but he’s also sharing backcourt duties with star scoring guard Trae Young.

Of course, the Hawks would want to rack up more wins with Murray on board. They are currently sporting a 13-12 win-loss slate, sitting on the 5th spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Their three-point percentage certainly needs improvement, as they are holding the second-worst efficiency from beyond the arc (32%). So far, the Hawks are only ranked 19th in offensive rating (111.7), something that’s mind-boggling, especially with a dynamic scorer and playmaker in Young on their roster.

Along with Murray, starting forwards John Collins and De’Andre Hunter are also included in the Hawks’ injury report.
