Grizzlies’ Ziaire Williams To Miss Extended Period of Time

Memphis Grizzlies young wing Ziaire Williams is set to miss four to six weeks more due to patellar tendinitis in his right knee. Williams has yet to appear in a game this regular season, missing the Grizzlies’ four games by far.

This is another unfortunate setback for the Grizzlies, as they’re already missing the services of starting big man Jaren Jackson Jr. Jackson, who was one of the best defensive players during the 2021-22 season, is currently sitting out due to a right foot injury. Along with Jackson and Williams, veteran sharpshooter Danny Green and newly-extended wing John Konchar are also listed in the team’s injury report.

Ziaire Williams, who just turned 21 last September, is in his second year with the Grizzlies. Selected 10th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, Williams became a solid piece under head coach Taylor Jenkins’s rotation. He started in 31 games and averaged 8.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.6 steals in 21.7 minutes per game. The numbers aren’t eye-popping, but he showed great versatility as a lengthy and mobile 6-foot-8 wing on both offense and defense.

Despite missing two of its starters from last season, the Grizzlies are off to a great start this season. They have won three of their first four games, including a morale-boosting victory over Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and the Brooklyn Nets. Their young backcourt duo of Ja Morant and Desmond Bane are leading the charge, and it’s exciting to see how the team will improve when Jackson and Williams return from their respective injuries.
