Goettingen

BG Goettingen defeated the Crailsheim Merlins, 83-69, to claim the 2013-14 German Pro A title.  This is the team’s first German Pro A championship. The win capped off what was an impressive season for the club. They finished the regular season atop of the league standings, four games ahead of their closest contenders.

Goettingen’s combination of good interior defense and solid execution on offense paved the way for their convincing and decisive win. They forged ahead early and managed to take a commanding six-point lead after the first period, 20-14. Crailsheim rallied in the second and ate into the hosts’ lead, trailing just by two at the half, 35-33. Goettingen exploded and pushed the tempo in the third quarter and managed to pull away from the visitors. Their pushed carried over into the final frame and the Dolphins could not provide any answers as their attempts were thwarted by Goettingen’s defense.

David Godbold notched a double-double for Goettingen with 17 points and 10 boards. Jermaine Mallet was one rebound shy of a similar line with 17 points and 9 rebounds of his own. Harper Kamp provided the team’s spark off the bench with 15 points and 7 rebounds.
