French Pro A: Dijon drops Strasbourg, 91-75

Dijon

Strasbourg IG was knocked off the top spot in the French Pro A standings after suffering a road loss to JDA Dijon Bourgogne, 91-75. Le Mans Sarthe Basket is now ahead in the leaderboard with an identical 19-10 record. The win moves Dijon to fourth place in the standings at 18-11. Once again, fans witness another testament to the stiffness of competition in France’s top basketball league. The top seven teams are all in a tight race, separated by just a game or two. A win here, a loss there and before we know it a new team gets to lay claim to the league’s top spot.

Strasbourg could not keep up with Dijon, who blew out of the gates from the opening quarter’s tipoff whistle. Dijon played solid basketball from the get-go and took an early seven-point lead in opening frame, 21-14. The second quarter saw the former top team wake up and show the audience some of its impressive form. Their players rallied and were able to crop the lead to just one point as they headed to locker rooms for the halftime break, 41-40. Despite some good baskets in transition, Dijon could not pull away too far in the third period. Strasbourg held tight and made their own adjustments. The fourth quarter spelled the difference in this encounter as Dijon’s threes began to fall, while Strasbourg was unable to clamp down with their perimeter defense. Dijon was too much to handle and ran off to victory as they outscored the visitors 27-15 in the last quarter.

Dijon’s scoring frenzy in this game was spearheaded by Andre Harris, who could not be stopped from dropping 23 points on Strasbourg thanks to his 10-14 shooting from the field. Mykal Riley was a huge boon to his club as well, finishing the game with 19 points and 10 boards. T.J. Campbell and Anthony Dobbins added 14 points apiece.

Strasbourg’s David Andersen finished with 15 points via 6-14 from the field. His struggles echoed his team’s overall performance for the night. Tim Abromaitis and Antoine Diot both chipped in 13 points apiece.
