Euroleague response to Khimki-Fenerbahce shot

EuroleagueDuring today’s Euroleague contest between BC Khimki Moscow Region and Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul, KC Rivers dropped in a jumper at the buzzer, with Khimki down by 1. Looking at the video below, you’ll see that the game clock had expired, but the red LED that runs around the backboard had not lit up as Rivers released his shot. This split-second discrepancy has caused much discussion and debate as which game-ending device takes precedence, should those devices not signify the game ending at precisely the same time. The officials reviewed the play and determined that the shot had gone off prior to the LED lighting up, giving Khimki the basket and a 71:70 win.

In response to the confusion, the Euroleague has issued a statement clarifying how this situation has been handled according to the rules that govern Euroleague play:

Due to the confusion created following the end of the game played today between BC Khimki Moscow Region and Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul regarding the last made field goal, Euroleague Basketball would like to clarify that as stated by the Official Basketball Rules as well as the Regulations of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague competition approved by the Euroleague Commercial Assets Shareholders meeting , the red LED lighting around the perimeter of the backboard takes precedence over the game clock signal sound to indicate the end of the period.
