Dinamo Tbilisi Wins 2018 Georgian Superleague

Georgian Superleague Dinamo Tbilisi gets to stay on top of the Georgian Superleague this 2017-18 after prevailing over Kutaisi 77-69 in Game 5 of the finals. It was a tough series that ended up going the distance but the defending champions protected their crown with an upset. This is the fifth Georgian Superleague title for the team and their second time to have a repeat-victory in back-to-back seasons. The last time was in 1991-92.

This was a tightly contested match with the lead exchanging hands at the end of the first couple of quarters. But with Dinamo riding on the shoulders of Kiel Turpin and his 27-point, 11-rebound double-double, they managed to hold on and eventually carve out the eight-point win. Lavell Boyd provided some much-needed support with 17 points of his own.

Kutaisi finished the regular season as the league’s top team with a 23-9 record. They put out a good showing for themselves in this series and have a lot to be proud of. DeJuan Wright led the team in scoring in this game with 20 points.

Dinamo has come through in the clutch and retain their title. Kutaisi will want another shot at the crown come 2018-19 and this rivalry could be a source of some amazing basketball in the Georgian Superleague.
