Virgin Islands down Costa Rica for the initial success at 2012 Centrobasket. The winners needed a 92:64 win to take 1-2 record in the Jose Miguel Agrelot in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico.
Virgin Islands grabbed the lead from the very beginning and never looked behind after. They added 20-14 in the second frame for 43:26 at the halftime. Moreover Virgin Islands won the third and the last quarters. They increased their lead to 28 points celebrating the initial victory. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida) paced all the winners with 25 points and Ivan Aska (200-F-90) notched 17. Jones Phillip collected 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Brown Aaron netted 14. Kay Martinez (198-G-84, college: Jackson St.) delivered 16 points in defeat, while Clifford Smith (193-G-80, college: Barry) had 12. US Virgin Islands will rest tomorrow and return to court on Friday against the Dominican Republic. Costa Rica will face off with Dominican Republic tomorrow.
