The German Bundesliga Finals are underway and FC Bayern Muenchen has drawn first blood by taking down ALBA Berlin 88-81 in Game 1. The more than 6,000 fans who poured into the Audi Dome to watched the battle were treated to an exciting first chapter to what should prove to be one hell of a series.
The hosts found themselves trailing at the end of the first period as ALBA went on the early offensive and put up 30 points on the board right away. The second period was another story altogether. The team from Munich shut down the Berlin squad almost completely, limiting them to just nine points for the whole period. The second period was the key turnaround point of the contest and FC Bayern Muenchen cruised to the win. Their key in this victory was their success at the free-throw line. Bayern made 39-of-50 (78%) shots from the line, compared to ALBA Berlin’s 13-of-22 (59.1%).
Malcolm Delaney three other Bayern Muenchen players to hit double figures with 16 points. He added four assists and two steals. Delaney was also a perfect 8-of-8 from the line. Bryce Taylor added 15 points and five rebounds. Heiko Schaffartzik scored 12 points and veteran John Bryant chipped 11 off the bench.
Only two ALBA Berlin players scored over nine points. Reggie Redding had a game-high 22 points which he complemented with seven rebounds and four assists. Leon Radosevic added 14 points.
