Anyang KGC wins 2017 Korean League championship

Anyang KGCAnyang KGC edged out the Seoul Samsung Thunders in Game 6 of their finals series, 86-88, to win the 2017 Korean KBL championship. The last time the organization hoisted the golden trophy above their heads was back in 2012, so it has truly been a refreshing 20161-17 season for the club.

The game itself went down the wire, with Anyang KGC pulling off some clutch plays in the fourth quarter. The Thunders seized the early initiative in the game with a 24-19 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Anyang KGC evened out the score at the end of the first half, 47-47. The third frame saw both teams grind it out to a standstill, 20-20, boiling down Game 6 to a fourth and final period. In the end, Anyang KGC brought out their A-game when it counted and managed to hang on for the win.

Anyang KGC’s Hee-Jong Yang was an impressive pure shooter in this game. All of his shots were from beyond the 3-point arc and the player connected on a crazy 8-of-9 of those shots to lead his team with 24 points. Anyang KGC had to overcome a monster double-double performance by Samsung’s Ricardo Ratliffe who chimed in with a game-high 34 points and 15 rebounds.
