Allen Iverson’s jersey retired by Sixers

Allen Iverson

The Philadelphia 76ers have retired Allen Iverson’s N0. 3 jersey during halftime in their game against the Washington Wizards on Saturday. His banner was raised between Maurice Cheeks’ No.10 and Charles Barkley’s No. 34. The emotional Iverson cupped his hand to his ear in the likeness of his iconic image one more time in front of 20,000 fans.

Iverson played twelve out of his seventeen-season NBA career with the Sixers. Allen will be remembered for his killer crossovers, his confidence in spotting up for the three (later on in his career) but most for the almost-suicidal way he would slash into the “Land of the Giants” just to make that layup to the basket. Iverson will go down in history as one of the game’s best slash-to-the-basket combo-guards to ever set foot on the hardcourt. Over his career, he produced impressive averages of 26.7 ppg, 6.3 apg and 2.2 spg.
