FIBA Intercontinental Cup

Greece’s AEK Athens prevailed over Brazil’s Flamengo 86-70 to capture the 2019 FIBA Intercontinental Cup on Sunday. Argentina’s San Lorenzo defeated the Austin Spurs convincingly, 77-59, to capture third place in the tournament. It has been six years since a Greek club won the gold trophy. Olympiacos Piraeus bagged the championship in 2013, defeating another Brazilian club, the Pinheiros Sky.

Jordan Theodore was named the tournament’s MVP. He paced AEK with 22 points, five assists and three steals. Former NBA big man Anderson Varejao led the way for Flamengo with 21 points.

This was the first time that the FIBA Intercontinental Cup featured the reigning champions of the NBA G-League, FIBA Basketball Champions League as well as the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas.
