7Days EuroCup opens Round 7 with three games

EuroCup

We should soon find the first few entrants into the 7days EuroCup Top-16 after Round 7. However, the first three games of the round, which were played out on Tuesday, did not involve any of the top teams that are on the cusp of punching their tickets to the next round.

Group A

MoraBanc Andorra took a step in the right direction after defeating Ratiopharm Ulm 87-99. Andorra improves to 4-3 and secures their spot in the group’s top-4. Unfortunately, for Ratiopharm Ulm, this winds up being their sixth loss in seven games, virtually denying their advancement into the next round.

Andorra was in firm control of the game early, but Ratiopharm Ulm played hard and threatened their lead, thanks to a 19-point debut by Isaiah Briscoe.

However, thanks to a strong fourth quarter, Andorra was able to stabilize and come through with the win.

Group C

In Group C, Darussafaka emerged triumphant in a crucial game against JSF Nanterre 68-82. The Turkish club is now 4-3, while Nanterre stumbles to 2-5 after failing to deliver in this must-win game.

A 0-11 fourth-quarter run by Darussafaka was the final nail in the coffin for Nanterre. Johnny Hamilton and Bonzie Colson-Jr. each scored 17 points to lead a balanced team attack, with three other teammates scoring in double figures. Only Kenny Chery managed to do so on the side of Nanterre with 18 points.

Group D

Buducnost Voli Podgorica finally got their first win of the season, beating Dolomiti Energia Trento 69-76 on Tuesday. While it was nice to see them get their first notch in the win column, it might be a case of too little, too late. They’re now 1-6 and are unlikely to advance into the next round.

On the other hand, this could might have been a devastating loss for Trento, who are now at 3-4 and outside looking into the group’s top-4. EWE Baskets and Asseco Arka are at 3-3 but have yet to play their Round 7 games. Trento could be forced into a must-win situation sooner rather than later as the three teams vying for those last two spots in the Group D top-4 could be a fierce sprint into the next round. Hassan Martin led Buducnost with 18 points.

After the results of tonight’s games, we will finally see which teams will be guaranteed a spot into the EuroCup Top-16.
