Serbian Superleague crisis averted

The battle that has erupted in the Serbian Superleague over the last weeks has been resolved today the league through Director Predrag Bojic (pictured) confirmed. All clubs involved in the recent disharmony have paid the outstanding monies that they owed and have had their statuses re-instated.

An issue emerged in recent weeks between the Serbian Superleague and several key clubs within the league over non-payment of outstanding debts.

Five teams were implicated in the problem, Sloboda Uzice, Metalac Valjevo, Red Star Belgrade, Vojvodina Novi Sad and Partizan Belgrade. Bojic and the Superleague decreed that should the financial payments not be received then all week 11 games from last week would become void for the team involved. In other words, if the teams did not pay their debts then even if they were victorious in week 11 the table would show a loss.

Red Star Belgrade through Director Nebojsa Covic was particularly vocal in its displeasure at the actions, and what the club deemed to be non-legal sanctions. Covic insisted that the Belgrade club was in fact owed money by the Serbian League and that he would only pay back what he believed was owed, a sum much smaller than the original fines.

However, despite the protests from Red Star it seems that the brewing situation has been resolved today, and it also appears that all the teams involved have paid whatever money they owed to the league. Bojic has now registered the results from week 11 and normal service will resume in the Serbian Superleauge on Wednesday.
