In an effort to bolster their roster on both offense and defense, the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly interested in trading for San Antonio Spurs veteran wing Josh Richardson. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Lakers and the Spurs are already in “preliminary discussions”, although it’s not yet definitive if an offer has already been brought to the table. The Lakers, a team that people believe to have lofty championship aspirations this year, are struggling to start the 2022-23 NBA season. They have lost their first three games, and there’s reason to believe that the front office is already scourging for new reinforcements.

Josh Richardson, who just turned 29 years of age last September, is in his second season with the Spurs. Through three games, the 6-foot-5 combo wing is logging 22.0 minutes while averaging 12.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists. He’s also hitting an excellent 47.1% of his 5.7 three-point attempts per game. Richardson has established himself as a 3-and-D threat, and his above-average outside shooting could help the Lakers.

Along with Richardson, the Lakers have also expressed interest in trading for Charlotte Hornets’ Terry Rozier and the Indiana Pacers’ duo of Buddy Hield and Myles Turner. The Lakers are in dire need of more outside shooting, as they are currently norming a measly 21.2% clip from beyond the arc. LeBron James and Anthony Davis are turning in stellar all-around performances, but they need more efficiency from their supporting cast.

The Lakers’ urgency to shake up their roster will depend on the team’s performance in the next few games. They are facing the tough road though, as they’ll go up against Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets twice, and challenging games against the Minnesota Timberwolves and the New Orleans Pelicans.
