Euroleague: three games on Friday

Euroleague

It was an excellent day of Basketball in the Euroleague on Thursday. Friday managed to live up to that with three games to close Round 18 of the competition. Darussafaka continued to look consistent with a win over Unics Kazan, while Real Madrid cruised past Zalgiris Kaunas with an easy road win. Finally, Olympiacos demolished Baskonia in style in front of its home fans.

Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul vs. Unics Kazan, 71-64

Darussafaka continued its excellent form with a home win over a Unics Kazan that continues to struggle despite having the hottest scorer in the Euroleague. The Turkish winners now move to 10-8 in a growing pack just below the top teams, while Kazan falls to 7-11. The Russian visitors held a slender one point lead at 51-52 through thirty minutes. However, the home team took control in the deciding frame with a 20-12 game winning run. Adrien Moerman paced the win with 17 points. Keith Langford scored a low (for him) 16 points in the losing effort, but remains top of the scoring charts with 23.5ppg.

Zalgiris Kaunas vs. Real Madrid, 59-74

Real Madrid had an easy day at the office as the Spanish champs rolled past Zalgiris Kaunas on the road. The win is the fourth in a row for Los Blancos and put the club second with a 13-5 record, while Zalgiris slipped to 6-12 near the bottom of the standings. After a 17-17 tie through ten minutes, Real Madrid started going through the gears with a 16-24 second act. The guests maintained the momentum to pull away in the second half. Othello Hunter led a well-rounded Madrid attack with 14 game-high points.

Olympiacos Piraeus vs. Baskonia Vitoria, 92-62

Olympiacos turned it on in Piraeus with a commanding performance over one of its nearest rivals. Baskonia has been fantastic this season, but the club was no match for the Greek champs in this game. Victory sends Olympiacos to 13-5 with Real Madrid in second place, while Baskonia drops to 11-6 in third. 50 first half points gave the hosts a 22 point lead and 26 third quarter points finished the contest for good.
