Crvena Zvezda on pace for perfect ABA season

Crvena Zvezda It’s almost a weekly habit at this point when talking about the ABA League, “Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd gets another win.” Well this week is no different. They needed an extra period to get the job done, but the Serbian powerhouse downed Mega Leks and took the 69-81 road win. So far, the team remains undefeated in 17 games, keeping them on track to make it into the history books by recording the first-ever perfect regular season sweep. While they have come away with wins against every team in the league at this point, not all of them have been blowout or runaway victories. They have had their share of close calls, but have somehow found the means to seal the deal after all is said and done. They have dominated this regional league for the last two seasons and are looking to make it a three-peat performance. The two titles they hold are a far cry from the six held by Eternal Derby rivals, BC Partizan (14-3). While the league has been mostly dominated by Serbian clubs throughout the years, teams such as Cedevita and Cibona from Croatia, as well Buducnost of Montenegro have been had reasonable success and recent playoff mainstays.

Mega Leks took control of the paint and Rade Zagorac was a force to be contended with as he ended the night with a 10-13 double-double performance. Crvena Zvezda would prevail with an inspired overtime period, stepping up their efforts on both ends of the floor to secure the win.

Stefan Jovic would end up doing an excellent job in getting his Red Star teammates involved in the action. He would finish the night with 10 points and 11 assists. Ognjen would lead Crvena Zvezda with a game-high 16 points while also adding nine rebounds.

Crvena Zvezda moves on to Round 18 where they are set to face 17th ranked Krka Novo Mesto. While an upset is highly unlikely, the defending champs should stay sharp and not take any of their opponents for granted.

Which team will rise up and end their historic winning streak? Or will Crvena Zvezda end up leaving their mark on ABA League history?
