Bologna, Unicaja, Promitheas advance in 7Days EuroCup

It’s finally here! On Wednesday, we have our first three advancing teams into the 7Days EuroCup top-16. They are Virtus Bologna and Promitheas Patras from Group A and Unicaja Malaga from Group D.

Segafredo Virtus Bologna power their way into the Top-16 with an impressive 6-1 record, dominating the Group A standings. The Italian coffeemakers secured their sixth win by downing Maccabi Rishon le Zion 79-85.

Bologna has been sharp so far this season, so it’s no surprise that they were able to put away their hosts with little challenge. The duo of Milos Teodosic and Julian Gamble served as their 1-2 punch combination in this one, scoring 18 and 19 points, respectively.

Maccabi Rishon’s Johnathan Williams-III and Alex Hamilton scored 19 points each, but their reserves could not chip in anything substantial in the game. Bologna’s bench outscored Rishon’s 6-32. That’s a staggering margin right there.

On the flip side, Promitheas Patras, mathematically guaranteed a berth, put up a less-than-valiant opposition against a hosting AS Monaco club.

The French team improved 4-3 after a walk-in-the-park 80-59 win over a chilling Patras team. Only Dimitrios Robinson and Leonidas Kaselakis scored in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively for the Greeks.

They can breathe easy now that they’re advancing into the EuroCup Top-16.

Unicaja Malaga enjoyed the comforts of home in a 91-69 blowout win over Asseco Arka Gdynia. Malaga led from start to finish and was not really threatened by their guests.

Asseco Arka tried to fight their way via their 3-point shooting. They made 10 treys compared to just seven by Unicaja, but the Spanish team’s dominance on the glass, 40-27 rebounds, would play a huge role in the win.
