Two more Brooklyn Nets players test positive for COVID-19
Spencer Dinwiddie and DeAndre Jordan of the Brooklyn Nets have tested positive for COVID-19, the players said on Monday.
Previously, four Nets players, including injured superstar Kevin Durant, tested positive for the coronavirus, in March.
Jordan, a 31-year-old center, posted the news on Twitter. He tweeted: “Found out last night and confirmed again today that I’ve tested positive for Covid while being back in market. As a result of this, I will not be in Orlando for the resumption of the season.”
In 56 games, Jordan averaged 8.3 points and 10 rebounds this season for the Brooklyn Nets.
A look ahead for the Brooklyn Nets, NBA
The NBA is scheduled to relaunch its 2019-20 season on July 30 at Disney World near Orlando, Florida, with 22 of 30 teams set to compete.
The Brooklyn Nets (30-34) are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
NBA training camps are set to open on July 9.
While Jordan, a member of the U.S. gold medal squad from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, won’t be competing in Florida, the Brooklyn Nets hope Dinwiddie can provide a spark. The 27-year-old guard is averaging 20.6 points in 64 games.
Dinwiddie “tested negative for the virus multiple times after returning to Brooklyn and took part in a couple practices,” The Associated Press reported, citing The Athletic. He said he’s been coping with a fever and a sore chest since returning to New York, according to AP.
Dinwiddie’s thoughts
Speaking to The Athletic, Dinwiddie discussed his health situation.
“Over the past few months, I have been diligent about protecting myself and others from COVID-19 by following all designated protocol and quarantining,” the Brooklyn Nets star told the website. “I was ready and prepared to rejoin my teammates as we were to be an early entry team in the resumed season. I flew private to return to New York, passed multiple COVID-19 tests over my first several days in New York and was able to participate in a couple practices within the first week.”
He added: “…Unfortunately I am now positive. Given that I have experienced symptoms, including fever and chest tightness, it is unclear on whether or not I’ll be able to participate in Orlando.”
