Damian Lillard Suffers Minor Leg Injury

Portland Trail Blazers superstar guard Damian Lillard will miss at least one week of action. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Lillard has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain of the “soleus muscle” in his right lower leg. It’s not anything major though, as it is expected that Lillard will only miss one to two weeks because of the leg injury. The Blazers superstar sustained the injury in a recent game against the Utah Jazz, in which he only logged 26 minutes of play and finished with 13 points, two rebounds, and seven assists.

Through 11 games this season, Damian Lillard is putting up a tremendous stat line of 26.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 0.5 steals. In what was supposed to be a lost year for the Blazers — particularly after trading away long-tenured star CJ McCollum to the New Orleans Pelicans last season — Lillard and the Blazers have been racking up the wins. With a record of ten wins against six defeats, the Blazers are currently tied with the Phoenix Suns and the Denver Nuggets for the 2nd spot in the Western Conference standings.

With Lillard as their only bona fide star on the roster, the Blazers will have to dig deeper to score some wins in the foreseeable future. Anfernee Simons is one of the best young rising stars in the league, as he’s putting up career-highs of 22.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.1 steals. Newly-acquired combo forward Jerami Grant is also delivering the goods, and veteran big man Jusuf Nurkic is still a dominant presence down low when he’s on.

Along with Lillard, young wing Keon Johnson and defensive specialist Gary Payton II are also listed in the Blazers’ injury report.
