Maurizio Gherardini likely out of Toronto

maurizio gherardiniThe Toronto Raptors organization will not likely be keeping Maurizio Gherardini with the team for the 2013-14 season. The Raptors are a global team and Gherardini, who is Italian, has been representing them in Europe. He was a former general manager of Benetton Trevisio from 1992 to 2006. Gherardini was VP/GM Assistant of the Raptors from 2006 to 2009.

The Raptors have recently snagged NBA-Executive-of-the-Year awardee Masai Ujiri from the Denver Nuggets and have given him free reign to “clean house.” As the Toronto’s new general manager, Ujiri has already let go of Jim Kelly and Dave Pendegraft. Even though Ujiri has opted to keep Dwane Casey for the last year of his contract, Ujiri is clearing up room to put his own people in place to get ready for the new season.

Gherardini is a top candidate for FIBA or FIBA Europe.
