Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is recovering from “left foot soreness” and will miss Monday’s contest with the Utah Jazz. This will be the first time that James will sit out this season. Through the team’s first nine games, the 18-time NBA All-Star is putting up an all-around stat line of 24.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, 7.1 assists, and 1.0 steals per contest.

James’ absence will be a huge disadvantage for the Lakers, as they are also missing the services of defensive-minded point guard Patrick Beverley and starting shooting guard Lonnie Walker IV. Both Beverley and Walker are nursing non-COVID illnesses. To make things even worse, Lakers superstar big man Anthony Davis is also questionable against the Jazz due to a lower back injury.

This season hasn’t been very easy for the Lakers. Their personnel problems started when returning scoring guard Dennis Schroder sustained an injury that has forced him to miss all Lakers games so far. Moreover, it’s even more difficult when the team is struggling to make plays on the court, as the Lakers are sporting an abysmal record of 2-7 to start the year. Even with LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the lineup, the team is currently 29th in offensive rating (103.4) and 28th in field goal percentage (44%).

LeBron James, who turns 38 years of age this December, has also seen his shooting percentages go down. He is only shooting 44.7% from the field this season, which is his lowest clip since his rookie year in 2003. On top of that, James’ three-point shooting is horrid, as he’s just hitting 21% of his 6.9 three-point attempts. Offense has been unforgiving for both James and the Lakers, but they have to address this problem before it’s too late.
