Jason Kidd to coach Brooklyn Nets

Jason Kidd (193 cm, California’94) is now officially the new head coach of the Brooklyn Nets coming into the 2013-14 season. Kidd recently retired as a player after 19 seasons in the NBA. The future Hall-of-Famer, who is already regarded as one of the best point guards to play the game, has had a long and successful history with the franchise. The 40-year-old Kidd played seven seasons for the Nets, some of the best years of his professional career (2001-2008). During that period, Kidd averaged 14.6 ppg, 9.1 apg, and 7.2 rpg. He led the team to two consecutive finals appearances; in 2002 and 2003.

Here is what Brooklyn Nets GM Billy King had to say about Kidd’s selection as the Nets’ head coach:

”Jason is a proven winner and leader with an incredible wealth of basketball knowledge and experience,” general manager Billy King said. ”This will be a natural transition for him to move into the role of head coach, as he embodies the tough, smart and team-first mentality that we are trying to establish in Brooklyn.”
