Mavroeidis comes home to play for Olympiacos

After one year outside his native Greece, big man Dimitrios Mavroeidis is going home to play for Olympiacos Piraeus, the club announced Thursday. The sides agreed on a two-year contract. Mavroeidis (2.08 meters, 27 years old) arrives from Gescrap Bilbao Basket, where he put up 4.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in just 13 minutes on average over 19 games last season. On a per-minute basis, Mavroeidis was the 11th-best rebounder in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague last season, and fourth-best in the Top 16, when Bilbao surprised everyone by reaching the playoffs in its first season. It was the second season, however, for Mavroeidis in the competition. He made his debut two seasons earlier, helping Maroussi of Athens go from the qualifying rounds to the Top 16 by scoring 9.1 points and pulling 4.6 rebounds in 17 minutes per game. That season, he ranked among the best 15 scorers per-minute in the Euroleague. Mavroeidis spent three seasons at Maroussi and another three split between Peristeri and Panionios at the beginning of his career.
