Greek A1: Top teams keep on dominating

Greek A1 This week we see that the top teams in the Greek A1 league managed to cruise to some easy victories. Panathinaikos Athens and Olympiacos S.F.P. Pireus share the lead in the league standings with 15-1 records. Both clubs came away convincing wins over their competition in Round 16 action.

Koroivos vs. Panathinaikos, 55-76

This game played out as expected the Athenian guests controlled the game from the very beginning and steadily built on their advantage, growing it with every passing quarter.

Koroivos folded under the pressure of the tough defense of Panathinaikos. They were limited to shooting 1-of-12 shots from beyond the arc. The hosts also failed to capitalize on their limited trips to the line, hitting a poor 12-of-21 shots from there.

The easy win allowed Italian import, Alessandro Gentile to put some of his game on display. He led Panathinaikos with 12 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes of action. James Feldeine added 10 points of his own.

Andreja Milutinovic led Koroivos with a double-double performance, recording 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Olympiacos vs. Doxa Lefkadas, 84-60

On February 5th, Olympiacos hosted the struggling Doxa Lefkadas. There were no surprises here as the Greek powerhouse made short work of their guests, dominating the game easily. The usual suspects from Olympiacos did their thing. Matt Lojeski led Olympiacos with 17 points.  Nikola Milutinov crashed the boards for a 12-11 double-double performance.

Doxa Lefkadas may have been outclassed, but they fought valiantly and even secured an early one-point lead at the end of the first quarter. That was the last lead they would see for the game. Once Olympiacos took control they did not look back and expanded on their ever-widening lead from minute-to-minute. Alex Harris led Doxa Lefkadas with 12 points and five boards, but he was hampered by some foul trouble during the game.
