Austin Steed inks deal with Citybasket

Austin SteedAustin Steed (2.03m, college: E. Carolina) has signed on to play for Citybasket Recklinghausen, their first season in German’s Pro B. Steed has been working out with the club and has been now offered a contract for the upcoming season. Steed played three seasons with South Carolina (NCAA-D1) and then enrolled in graduate school at East Carolina University (NCAA-D1) after graduating in 2011 to play his final year of eligibility and to work on a Masters Degree. Unfortunately, the ECU graduate program he was enrolled in requires a 3.00 GPA to remain in the program and he earned a 2.85 GPA and was removed, making him ineligible to continue playing during the second semester of school.

This wasn’t an NCAA rule, this was a rule of the Graduate program he was enrolled in, students much keep above a 3.00 GPA to remain in the program. Since he dropped under the required GPA level, he was removed and since he was no longer a student, he couldn’t play basketball either.

I like these whimsical rules of NCAA, though both colleges are underestimated.

    Nice addition I think.
