2017 EuroBasket: Russia and Hungary win
The 2017 EuroBasket Qualifiers continued on Tuesday with two contest in Europe. Russia run out a comfortable winner against Bosnia and Herzegovina, while in an earlier win for Hungary saw the team move past Great Britain.
Both contests were on the road to next year’s tournament, which will be the 40th edition of the competition. 2017 EuroBasket and will be held across four across four nations. Israel, Romania, Finland, and Turkey will have the eyes of the European international Basketball community on them this time next year.
Russia vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina, 83-54
Russia looked slick in blasting past a poor Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, after ten minutes, it was the visitors with the lead, with the score at 19-20 after the first quarter. Russia found some gears and the bucket in the second frame, but Bosnia kept pace as the teams traded baskets and the lead. Through the long break, the guests had held their lead at 34-35. Russia came out for the second half in a big way, hitting a massive 49 points and stopping Bosnia at just 19 points. It was a stunning performance to seal the victory.
Dmitry Kulagin topped the win with 17 points, while Timofey Mozgov managed 14 points, and Sergey Bykov nailed 11 points.
Jusuf Nurkic pushed the losing effort with a double-double of 19 points and 15 boards, followed by Milan Milosevic with 10 points.
Hungary vs. Great Britain, 96-77
Hungary was far too strong for Great Britain and sailed in this 2017 EuroBasket Qualifiers game. The first quarter was hugely exciting as both teams peppered the nets. By the buzzer, the hosts took a 25-23 advantage. Hungary kept going in the second period while Britain stopped scoring, 28 points for the hosts ensured a 53-41 lead. By the end of the third act Hungary had maintained its 12 point lead and then used a 22 points final frame to take an easy win.
Adam Hanga poured in 32 points in the victory and also added 7 rebounds and 4 assists. David Vojvoda added 24 points and Janos Eilingsfeld 19 points.
Andrew Lawrence and Daniel Clark notched 22 points apiece for Great Britain.
