The Memphis Grizzlies have opted to hire from within in addressing their head coaching vacancy. They promoted David Joerger, the team’s long-time assistant (2007-2013), to be the new head coach. The team chose not to renew the contract of former head coach Lionel Hollins. He had various head coaching stints outside of the NBA. He coached in the D-League, CBA, USBL, and IBA.

Memphis is looking to build on their success in the 2012-13 season. They were able to defeat the Los Angeles Clippers in the playoffs and displayed a fresh, grittier approach in the post-season. It is now Joerger’s challenge to make the most of the assets that remain in a franchise with an ownership that has chosen a penny-pinching route.
