D’Angelo Russell Answers Questions with Big Outing

After reports saying that the Minnesota Timberwolves are getting impatient with his inefficiency this season, D’Angelo Russell clapped back with a masterful performance on the court. In the Timberwolves’ recent 129-124 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Russell bounced back in a big way, putting up game-highs of 30 points and 12 assists while only committing two turnovers. The lefty scoring point guard missed just two of his 13 total field goal attempts and shot an excellent 4-of-5 clip from the three-point line.

The Wolves have been struggling to start the new season, as they are only sporting a record of six wins against eight losses. Through 14 games, D’Angelo Russell is only putting up a stat line of 14.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.3 steals. These numbers are his lowest output since his rookie year with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2015-15 season. To make matters worse, he recently made it to the social media spotlight in a negative way. He embarrassingly made a laughable blunder on defense, leading to Minnesota head coach Chris Finch questioning his focus.

But this excellent outing against the Cavaliers could be the start of something new, not just for Russell but for the whole Wolves squad. Despite the Cavs missing the services of star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell, they were still a very tough team to beat, especially when Darius Garland gets it going. So chalk this one up as a morale-boosting victory for the Timberwolves.

This is Russell’s fourth season with the Wolves. With the arrival of multiple-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert last summer, there’s no doubt that the pressure is high for the Wolves to go on a deeper playoff run this season.
