CSKA Moscow extends winning streak to six games in EuroLeague regular season finale

CSKA Moscow rallied past Panathinaikos at home (93-86) and ended the regular season in the EuroLeague in a winning way.

This was the sixth straight win for the Muscovites, who had already clinched the second place in the EuroLeague standings (24-10).

On the other hand, the “Greens” ended up losing nine of their last 11 EuroLeague games to finish with an 11-23 mark and 16th place in the regular season.

CSKA will now prepare for its EuroLeague playoff matchup with Fenerbahce, with the series starting next Wednesday, April 21.

On the contrary, Panathinaikos will concentrate the rest of the season on the domestic Greek League.

“We grabbed the second spot with the same record as Barcelona. We have to be pretty happy with that considering the fact that we had a lot of absences, a lot of injuries and a lot of problems.

We’re ready for the next phase. Hopefully, we will have some more bodies with us. We’re very thrilled and motivated to see each and every game. We know it will be tough,” CSKA head coach Dimitris Itoudis told reporters afterwards.

“We are ready to get to [the playoffs]. Hopefully, we can continue this run and continue to get better,” Will Clyburn added.

The Russians now have their sights set on the upcoming postseason. The remaining series will see FC Barcelona face Zenit Saint Petersburg and Anadolu Efes clash with Real Madrid.

At the same time, Armani Milano will play Bayern Munich, which advanced to the EuroLeague playoffs for the first time in its history.

Wednesday night also saw Monaco and UNICS Kazan secure their place in the 2021/22 EuroLeague season.

The two teams advanced to the EuroCup Finals and will play in the EuroLeague next season.

Monaco will make its EuroLeague debut, whereas UNICS will play in the competition for the fourth time.
