CEZ Nymburk wins Czech Cup

CEZ Nymburk
As cup fever descends across Europe the champions are starting to be crowned, including CEZ Nymburk after the team won the Czech Republic Cup. The confident 91-67 victory over Ariete Prostejov hardly comes as a surprise as Nymburk has now won eight consecutive Czech Cup titles as well as the last ten NBL championships.

CEZ took charge of the final from the opening tip off and carved out a significant first quarter lead that Ariete Prostejov would find no way back from. After ten minutes of play Nymburk was in control of the game with a 29-12 lead. As hot favorites CEZ was living up to the hype and continued to punish Ariete in the second quarter, despite the fact Prostejov is sitting pretty at the top of the NBL. After half of the game, Nymburk had all but secured the win with the halfway scoreboard reading 55-25. The trend of the game continued in the second quarter as the defending champions continued to press, but Prostejov managed to get closer with the score 67-52 after thirty minutes. However, any thought of a comeback was thwarted in the last stanza when CEZ Nymburk secured a comfortable Czech Cup final win.

Vojtech Hruban grabbed a game high 25 points for the winning team, with Radoslav Rancik collecting 23, Ilievski 14, and Rasid Mahalbasic nailed 10 points. Dusan Pandula secured 17 points in the losing effort.

There was also a contest for third place between BK JIP Pardubice and BK Opava. Pardubice emerged victorious 92-77 in the consolation game thanks in part to a 22 point haul from Travis Nelson.
