Injured Kevin Love Could Miss Some Games

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be missing a veteran presence for probably a short period of time this season. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Cavaliers’ veteran big man Kevin Love has sustained a right thumb injury, which could keep him out for a few games. Charania mentioned that it was just a “hairline” fracture, so there’s a chance that Love will recover from this setback sooner than later. The Cavaliers’ medical staff will evaluate Love’s thumb injury on a daily basis, which also means that there’s still no exact timetable for the vet’s return.

Kevin Love, who just turned 34 years of age last September, is in his ninth season with the Cavaliers. Despite having his role diminished in the past couple of years, Love has been exemplary in his role off the bench. Through 15 games this season, Love is logging 21.3 minutes per contest, while norming 11.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. He is still grabbing rebounds at a very high rate, not to mention that he is also shooting a stellar 40.9% clip from the three-point line. Love may be past his prime, but he still turns in quality minutes every game, especially with his ability to space the floor on offense.

With their acquisition of All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell last summer, the Cavaliers have lofty ambitions this summer. They are currently sporting an excellent record of nine wins against six defeats, which is good for the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference standings. With Mitchell, Love, Darius Garland, Caris LeVert, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen leading the way, there’s no doubt that the Cavaliers could pull off major surprises come playoff time.
