Apoel bags 2013-14 Cypriot Championship

Cyprus – Cytavision Apoel Nicosia takes down Game 5 of their championship series against Petrolina AEK Larnaca, 81-50 and are now the 2014 Champs. It was an great series from the league’s top two teams. Throughout the season and all through the playoffs Apoel employed solid defense as the secret to their success. The championship series was no different as they convincingly locked down the 2013 defending champions and moved on to take the grand prize.This is the eleventh Cyprus League Championship for Apoel. The last time Apoel won it was in 2010.

Both Apoel and AEK were dominant throughout the regular season. Apoel won the regular season with a one-game advantage over AEK, finishing with a 13-2 record. They were head and shoulders above the third-ranked team, Forex Time Apollon which finished up with a 9-6.

Apoel got a big game offensively from Jamar Diggs who finished the night with 25 points. Diggs got aggressive early in the game while AEK hesitated to contest their rivals in the paint. He got solid support from his partner in crime in Apoel’s backcourt, Thaddeus McFadden, who chipped in 15 points. Andreas Glyniadakis was the team’s top producer off the bench with 13 points.
