It’s safe to say that Andrew Wiggins has carved a niche in the stacked Golden State Warriors roster. The Warriors’ official PR Twitter account recently announced that the team has inked Wiggins to a four-year contract extension, establishing the 27-year-old small forward as a centerpiece for the franchise’s future. The Warriors are yet to release concrete details regarding the contract, but reports have it that Wiggins’ extension will be a four-year, $109 million payday.

Wiggins, the top overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, is entering his third full season with the Warriors. He first played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and then got traded to the Warriors in the middle of the 2019-20 season. The Dubs were able to take advantage of Wiggins’ strengths on both ends of the floor, and it resulted in an All-Star appearance for the 6-foot-7 forward last season. Wiggins produced a stat line of 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.0 steals while shooting a 46.6% overall clip from the field, including an excellent 39.3% percentage from beyond the arc.

At just 27 years of age, Andrew Wiggins is just entering the peak of his career. It was a no-brainer for the Warriors’ front office to secure his services, especially with how he has bought into head coach Steve Kerr’s system on offense and defense. Wiggins will again be a part of Golden State’s starting lineup this season, slotting alongside Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Kevon Looney.

The Andrew Wiggins extension came right after the team inked rising star Jordan Poole to a four-year, $140 million contract extension. With Steph, Klay, and Draymond all in their 30s, it’s wise for the Warriors to start investing in their young guns.
